How to transition a sole proprietorship to LLC in Ohio:
- Verify that the LLC business name is available from the OSOS: https://businesssearch.ohiosos.gov/
- Designate a registered agent
- File articles of organization with OSOS: https://www.ohiosos.gov/businesses/filing-forms–fee-schedule/
- Assign fictitious name from individual to LLC (if applicable): https://www.ohiosos.gov/businesses/filing-forms–fee-schedule/
- Adopt an operating agreement with rules on ownership and operations
- Verify if you need a new EIN for the LLC: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/do-you-need-a-new-ein
- Open any bank account and credit card in name of LLC
- Apply or re-apply for any required business licenses and permits in the name of the LLC
Remember, the LLC is a separate legal entity from you as an individual.
